Falling For Mr Devlin
Already a week working in Columbia Axis Hospital and I was exhausted to the level as if I had worked already for a year. The chief was still on leave and but thankfully I grew under my senior and got good reviews from them regarding my work."Hey Vienna, Chief is in the room. He is asking for you," Jenny one of my seniors told me throwing a smile my way because she knew how impatient I was to work with the chief. As soon as I entered the door and heard that he has returned, I kept my things on my table and practically ran to his cabin knocking on the door.I heard him asking me to come in and as I opened the door, I gasped when I saw the person."Jesse?" I muttered as I remember the guy from Leila Devlin's wedding. He was putting his suit on the swivel chair when he saw me and smiled up at me."Well hello," he grinned and I smiled widely as I walked in and stood before him, the table separating us."Oh my god! How did I not guess it when I heard the surname Eden?" I mumbled to myself shaking my head."But you are Mr. James Kelly's business partner right?" I asked and he smiled nodding at me."But that doesn't mean I can't have my own work right?" he questioned raising an eyebrow and I shook my head. Sure, I knew him but that doesn't mean I can be so friendly with him. He was my senior as he was the Chief and I had to maintain that as I was just a mere intern."I heard about your work from Mrs. Young. She is really impressed and I hope you are having a good time here," he said and took a sit on his chair and signaled me to take a sit before him. As I did, his eyes remained focussed on me and I stared back at him waiting if he had anything else to say."Yes, I am really loving it here,""Well, today I have a meeting with the directors. Wanna join?" he asked and I was already beaming with happiness and nodded excitedly earning a chuckle."So what do I call you? Sir or Chief? Everyone seems to call you Chief," I asked and he shook his head furrowing his eyebrows."Just my name will do," he said as I nodded and got up. His brown eyes twinkling with mirth but I ignored it and turned to get back to my work."Vienna," he called and I looked back."I look forward to work with you," he said with a smile and I nodded not knowing what to answer as I got out of his cabin and walked back to my place.~To say I was amazed by how Jesse handled every case and meeting with the director would be an understatement. It turned out it was my right choice, to give it a try on a health legal law team.Though I had to argue with my dad regarding leaving his firm and renting a room away but still I would say, it was totally worth it.It was already the time of lunch break and my seniors left for the cafeteria while I excused myself to take a call from my uni. After finishing my call, I made it to the elevator and walked in pressing the second-floor button to the cafeteria. As the door pinged open, I walked out putting my id card in my pocket when I crossed a room and heard something crashing down and breaking.Though not my place, still curiousness got me and I walked to the room and opened the door only to find a woman trying to reach out for the fallen vase from her bed."It's okay. I will get it for you," I said as I walked in and she looked up. She was the same lady I met on the first day of my work, back in the elevator. I picked up the vase and the flowers and put it back on the table next to her. She looked up at me and smiled. "Thank you," she said and I nodded as I turned back to leave. She was in a patient outfit and I knew she was a patient."Wait! I think I have seen you somewhere before," she said and that made me look back at her."In the elevator, maybe?" I said and her eyes widen for a second as she nodded."Oh yes, I saw you in the elevator," she said and I nodded."Are you a doctor in this hospital?" she asked and I shook my head."No. I work as an intern in the legal team," I told her and her mouth formed in an 'O' as she nodded."I see,""Where are your.." I looked around and as I found her alone in the room, I asked her "relatives or family members?"She shrugged her shoulder "I don't have any. I live in a care center, alone. These past few days, I wasn't feeling good so I was admitted here by the NGO," she said and I noticed as her face grew pale and marred up with sadness."I was actually going to have my lunch since it was my lunch break," I told her and she nodded, understanding."Oh, I am really sorry. I stopped you asking you questions," she laughed and I shook my head."Did you have your lunch?" I asked and she shook her head no and showed me the tiffin box which was allotted to patients from the hospital."It's no fun eating alone and the food is worst," she snickered at the end to herself which made me chuckle. "Well, it's healthy too. Mind if I join you for lunch?" I asked and her eyes instantly lit up."Can you? If it's okay for you, I mean. I do not really have a habit of eating alone. My friends from the care, we dine together every day so I feel really lonely now," she said with a small smile as I wondered about it."Why can they be here?""We are disabled. I can't really walk and they can't either and I live miles away from this hospital. It's impossible for them to come here," she told me and I nodded understanding her situation."It's alright. I have started my internship just some days ago and I don't really have friends here. I can accompany you for lunch," I told her and her face lit up."Thank you, if that's not a problem," she said and I nodded as I turned around. "Let me bring my lunch up here and then we can talk," I said and heard her humming."Oh by the way, what's your name?" she asked and that made me stop in my tracks as I looked back."Vienna Avis,""Lovely name," she said and pushed back some few strands of her hair back to her ear."What's yours?" I asked and she looked up "It's Kaitlyn," she said and I nodded adding with a smile. "Well nice to meet you, Kaitlyn," I said as I turned and walked out of the room with a smile plastered on my face because, after a long time, I was able to socialize with someone.Someone who wouldn't force me to do something, someone who would not judge me and someone who would not interfere in my life.Turns out joining Columbia Axis Hospital was not a bad idea at all.
